Different Types of Telecom Services

Telecommunication means transferring signals over a distance. Services that offer voice, internet, television, networking, and data services over a large area are known as telecom services. They can either be wired or wireless.

A lot of Telecom Consulting companies provide these services. The prices differ considerably depending on the type of service, plan, area of living, and from one company to another. From the times of using drums to communicate to electromagnetic waves now, this sector has seen a drastic change over the years. Some of the types of telecom services are:

POTS

POTS or landline is used for voice calls around the world. With a not very large bandwidth, POTS usually works for not more than 52 kilobits per second. One bit has a value that is "0" or "1" in the binary language. 52 kilobits is the maximum data moved in this circuit.

T1 Lines

It has a bandwidth larger than POTS; T1 lines can carry more information of around 1.54 megabits per second. It is the maximum data that can be moved in this type of circuit.

Metro Ethernet

Metro Ethernets have a wider bandwidth as they use fiber instead of copper for delivery in their circuits. They have a speed range of around 3 megabits to 1 gigabit per second. The massive bandwidth makes metro ethernet suitable for small business work areas.

Wired and Wireless Networks

The telecom services are also categorized as wired or wireless. Landlines are an example of wired telecom services. These are used only for voice calls and transferring information through calls. There are a lot of landline services available, and some of them also have internet facilities. Several companies offer landline and wireless services. However, most of the companies involved in both things are different and are in direct competition.

The change of fiber optics from copper wires changed this sector's entire concept, seeing a mass transformation with the emergence of the internet. Companies offer internet services that are much cheaper but sold at a comparatively higher price. It has also made information transfer much more accessible. People now don't have to rely on voice calls every time. The prices of the internet differ from area to area.

Optical Telecommunication Services

One of the oldest forms of the telecommunication system is the optical telecommunication systems, the system that started it all; they have telegraphy lines, which showcases the evolution of technology from the past to the present.

Fiber-optic communication is the same as optical telecommunications. It relies on the process to convert data into light-projecting beams, which are ultimately transferred to fiber optic cables and use a more traditional connection, known as infrared.

Full Duplex Systems

You may wonder what a full-duplex system is; all you must do is have a look at your cell-phone. It uses the most popular sources of accessing the internet. These systems can allow for more outstanding communication with one another, all while enhancing the experience of communication between two parties.

Radio Telecommunication Systems

These systems allow for wireless communication, and that can also reach across a more considerable distance.

It includes radio broadcasts, which are sent out into the world. They mostly use radio transmitters that are decoded together at the end.

These systems are the perfect introduction to 20th-century communication technology. It still uses radio and television as one of the number one methods of communication today.

Half-Duplex Systems

When one thinks of radio systems, it's an excellent example of a half-duplex communication system. It is designed to send messages and receive it, which requires both parties to wait for a response before they send a message.

Fixed-Data Services

These services include a packet, circuit-switched access services (for example, Integrated Services Digital Network, frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode, IP, DSL, multichannel multipoint distribution service [MMDS] and satellite), retail revenue, and dedicated/private line.

There is no differentiation made between the type of traffic or application carried by these services. All kinds of transmissions like the non-voice data, image, video, fax, interactive services, and even voice can be taken by these services regardless of whether the source format is analog or digital. For all the revenue that reflects the service provider to annualized retail revenue paid for the service's business and residential end-user, no wholesale or carrier-to-carrier includes payment in these kinds of services.

Fixed-Voice Services

This service reflects retail voice service revenue for all services that are sold as such to end-users. These services also include local and long-distance provisions related to voice, for instance, line rental/subscription, calling charges, and connection fees are included in this category), enhanced voice services, data, and fax transmission over a circuit-switched PSTN, and retail voice over an IP revenue. It is paid for the service's business and residential end-user; no wholesale or carrier-to-carrier payment is included in these services.

Mobile Telecom Services

These include all the revenue from mobile data usage and mobile or telephone calls. There are also services like short message services (SMS), along with connectivity to the internet.

Although consumer chargers are not a part of these services, they do include the above-mentioned calling, SMS, and Data access. One of the other charges also has line rental/subscription and connection fees. Wholesale/carrier services are not included as a component of business IT spending.

Different Plans

There are various plans provided by multiple companies for different telecom services. Some companies offer internet, landline, and television services together while some provide all the three separately. Generally, the internet and landline plans are more preferred by people for work areas and homes as it is the basic need in today's world.

Biggest Threat

One of the biggest threats to telecom companies comes from wireless industries. It's more mobile and provides services like caller ID and call waiting.

With time humans have become more developed. This telecom services sector has seen a dramatic improvement over the years and helped people communicate more easily. It is also a flourishing sector providing numerous jobs and has a promising future. It is also continuously growing in modern ways.
