Free personal safety apps

You’ve probably heard it said that safety was never an issue in the good old days. However, despite studies showing that the world is becoming safer, crime has always been an issue, and there will always be times when you fear for your safety or the safety of those around you. The days of personal rape alarms have passed, although there is perhaps still a place for a small object that makes a large amount of noise.

After all, even if no one reacts, the alarm itself can be devastating if held to the attacker’s ear.

However, with the digital age, there comes an array of apps that can help you feel safe and get help, no matter where you are. All you need is your cell phone, which you probably carry with you anyway!

It is worth noting that personal safety apps generally deal with your safety when you’re out and about if you’re a parent you can also use apps such as mspy, to keep track of your children and ensure their safety.

There are plenty of personal safety apps to choose from, but the following aren’t just some of the most recent and best, they are also free. Of course, in the future, you’ll be able to rely on AI apps to get you out of trouble, but for now, more conventional apps will have to do:

bSafe

Using GPS this app can advise your chosen contacts exactly where you are. This allows them to track your progress or send help if you’re having an issue.

It also allows you to make fake calls that will help to avoid someone from attacking you as they’ll think there is someone on the other end.

It’s really easy to install and set up with the contact details of a few chosen people.

VithU

This app was originally created to help women who feel they are in imminent danger. However, it is possible for men and women to use. You simply tell the app which contacts are your preferred friends.

If you feel unsafe or are in danger, simply hit the app and it will send a message to everyone on your list. They’ll be able to respond and follow your journey with GPS tracking.

React Mobile

This is a great personal safety app as it can be used in a variety of situations. For example, if you’re feeling concerned about the route home you can use the app to ask a friend to track your progress via real-time GPS. Or, you can get them to physically follow you; if necessary.

You can also let your friends know you’re okay and give them your GPS location if you need them quickly. The key is to choose friends that you know will see the message and will respond!;

OnWatch

As with most personal safety apps, the OnWatch app will allow you to send an instant alert to your friends, or even the police. This can be achieved with one click of the app and helps to ensure you get help when you need it.

However, the OnWatch app also allows you to set a timer. You’ll need to respond within a few minutes of the alarm being set off.  If you don’t respond the app will send a message to everyone in your emergency contact list. They’re sure to come quickly to your rescue!

Circle of 6

Choose 6 of your closest friends and family and then add them to your Circle of 6 app. It’s easy to do and allows you to call for help almost instantly.

If you feel unsafe, scared, or are actually attacked, opening this app will allow you to alert your friends, they can then pick you up and eliminate the issue.

Baxta

Baxta is designed to make calling for help easy, you simply create an emergency contact list and then Baxta can send them all a call for help at the same time. There is also a one-touch button for contacting the emergency services and you can even shake your phone to activate an emergency call. That’s especially useful if you can’t get to the phone or have very limited time available.

The app will share your GPS location and, if you have a phone signal, it can even call a contact and advise them you’re in trouble.

In short, it’s going to make you feel more confident wherever you are.

Red Panic Button

There is an increasing number of this type of personal safety apps. The premise is simple, you don’t always have time to call or text a friend when you’re in a tight spot. With Red Panic Button you don’t need to.

All you have to do is push the button on the app, it will call the number you’ve programmed into it and alert them of your location and the fact that you are unsafe. If you prefer you can set it up to send an email instead, although this relies on your contact picking up their emails.

SOS App

It doesn’t matter how old you are, you may need a fast emergency response. This app contacts the emergency services for you and lets them know the issue and your location. All you have to do is hit ‘activate emergency’ and the alert will be sent.

If the situation passes you can stop the emergency by hitting the red button on your screen.

Tactics ON Pro

This app is designed to reduce the risk of kidnapping and other violent crimes. Once activated it can sound an alarm, run as a tracker using GPS, or simply allow you to contact emergency services and other contacts by hitting the panic button.

It also offers some useful advice regarding how to stay safe in these situations.

Final thoughts

It would be nice to think we live in a world where nothing bad happens. But, the truth is there will always be a tie when you feel unsafe and these apps will help to reduce the feeling of fear. Because you’ll know that help is only an app away.
