AI has gone from being a science fiction dream to becoming an essential part of our lives when used on our smartphones thanks to voice assistants like Siri, Alexa and Google
Experts, companies and developers agree on this forecast by highlighting that there are more and more products or services that include some type of AI-based technology, from machine learning algorithms to neural networks and deep learning.
Artificial Intelligence can offer a series of very important benefits in any sector and use since it is one of the most transversal technologies that exist today. But it can also generate problems and risks if people let the machines and algorithms make the final decisions.
In this regard, the professor of the Higher School of Technical Education (ESET) of the University Cardenal Herrera CEU, Antonio Falcó , responsible for several research projects based on Artificial Intelligence, is clear in stating that "a machine can never replace the man in the final decision-making process and we cannot delegate this aspect to it, since we are talking about learning algorithms that, if not well implemented, do not offer good solutions".
For this reason, Europe has finalized its GDPR rules, which is centered on the human being, based on fundamental rights, ethical principles and values. In the absence of the publication of such a guide, what is clear is that AI is increasingly present in our daily lives. When we do a search on the internet, when we talk with the smartphone or use voice assistants (Siri, Alexa or Google), we open a bank account , when we write in a chatbot or when we use, at work , a CRM software we are using, to a greater or lesser extent, artificial intelligence.
Therefore, large companies are going to invest more in the development of this technology, while smaller companies are already incorporating it into their daily lives to improve their efficiency, reduce costs and be more competitive.
Artificial Intelligence experts are working on automatic learning, knowledge engineering, artificial vision, natural language processing and data mining, to get really interesting and useful solutions.
It is estimated that almost a third of companies will incorporate artificial intelligence into their processes through early next year. Thus, there will be more and more applications in the field of machine learning, which allows systems to learn without having been specifically programmed for it, and there will be an increase in the adoption of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), intelligent systems that learn from applications already existing to process transactions, manipulate data and communicate with other expert systems .
Among the sectors that use this technology the most are banking since it is being used to capture clients of a certain risk profile, avoid late payment, cross-sell actions or avoid fraud.
The implementation and use promise to be massive in the coming month's thanks, also, to the emergence of artificial intelligence platforms in the cloud, which is facilitating the democratization of AI by making it available to smaller companies. Amazon and Google already offer their platforms.
Fields of application for AI
Medicine and Health
In health care, the objective of the implementation of artificial intelligence is to improve patient care and reduce costs. To do this, companies are applying machine learning to make better and faster diagnoses.
In this field, one of the best-known health technologies is that of IBM, for which it has developed its IBM Watson Health business unit where its system extracts patient data and other available data sources to formulate a hypothesis, which it then presents with a confidence score scheme.
Business and Companies
The automation of robotic processes is being applied to highly repetitive tasks normally performed by human beings. Thanks to machine learning algorithms, attempts are made to discover information on how to best serve customers. An example is chatbots, which have been incorporated into websites to offer immediate service to customers.
Education
AI allows students to evaluate and adapt to their needs, helping them to work at their own pace. Tutors can provide additional support to students, ensuring they stay on track. This way you could change where and how students learn, perhaps even replacing some teachers.
Finance
Some applications can collect personal data and provide financial advice. For example, today, the software performs much of the operations on Wall Street. In banks, it is already used to avoid fraud or study clients.
Legal Scope
The process of search and discovery through the review of judicial documents is an overwhelming job for human beings. Automate this process allows better use of time and a more efficient process.
Manufacturing
This is an area that has been at the forefront of incorporating robots into the workflow. Industrial robots used to perform unique tasks and were separated from human workers, but as technology advances that have changed.
Biometric Facial Recognition
Biometrics is an artificial intelligence application that gives intelligent systems the ability to collect data on facial and demographic characteristics. Thus, intelligent machines can adapt their responses by analyzing different identities and emotional responses.
Agriculture
The use of drones for the field together with AI can generate images of the field with the colors of the different crops, being able to identify pests and find solutions.
